Hamilton: The American Musical Lookbook


Like a lot of people, I was pretty obsessed with Hamilton in 2016. I was fortunate to see the show live in Los Angeles in 2017 (Emmy Raver-Lampman played Angelica!) and have watched it probably 7 times since the film dropped.  I didn't create the full cast because this is gigantic already, but you can easily make Aaron Burr, John Laurens/Philip, and Hercules Mulligan/James Madison out of these outfits too. For George Washington, just add a sash and a hat to the 18th Century Army uniform, as seen on Lafayette.

Decades Lookbook: 1970's Part 2


Transitioning from the Swinging Sixties to the Disco era gave 1970's clothing new colors, patterns and textures. Polyester jumpsuits, fringe jackets, flared pants, maxi dresses and retro T-shirts were just a few of the popular styles in the 70's. 

If I did my job right, you ought to be able to tell that three of my sims were inspired by women who were famous musicians during the 1970's: (from L to R, first pic, 2nd position): Donna Summer, Cher and Stevie Nicks. 

Both Donna and Cher were disco icons, though Cher is the queen of reinventing herself and had hits in the 80's and 90's (Believe was my jam) and a big acting career. As Donna and Cher were disco performers, they opted for more revealing clothing plus lots of glitter, sequins, feathers and furs. Cher is often credited as the first woman to show her navel on TV during The Sonny and Cher Show, but it was actually three women on the 1960's series Star Trek. Cher Inspiration:  Photo 1 | Photo 2

Donna Summer is known as the mother of dance music; her gospel-trained voice combined smooth vocals with beats made for the dance floor. As she created her signature sound, her style also became an important factor in her stage presence. Donna Inspiration: Photo 1 | Photo 2

Now there's Stevie Nicks. If I ever don't know what to listen to, I put on The Chain. And then I likely repeat it a few times. Stevie aesthetic is boho hippie witch and is known for wearing oversize, billowing silhouettes. She loves to wear multiple textures at the same time (ie: chiffon, velvet, satin, lace, fringe) Many of the details she’s been wearing for decades are re-emerging as trends on runways and in street style.     Decades Lookbook: 1960's Part 2


    I had an urge to create Brigitte Bardot in the Sims and well, here we are!

    Brigitte Bardot is a former actress and style icon whose biggest fashion impact was surprisingly, on the bridal industry. BB wore a pink gingham wedding dress to her second wedding that was both unconventional and influential and is still being copied today.

    1960's fashion is a mash up of the 1950's prim and proper and the 1970's well, groovy-ness. As a result of that marriage, the 1960's Mod, Hippie, Casual, Housewife, and Party styles were born.

    Each of my sims were inspired by a combination of women who were famous during the 1960's: (from L to R, first pic): Diana Ross/Aretha Franklin, Jackie Kennedy Onassis/Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy/Brigitte Bardot, and Angela Davis/Shirley Chisholm. Fictional Betty Draper may have got in there too.
