Rocky Horror Picture Show Lookbook


This lookbook features most of the eccentric cast of Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). The cult classic follows newly engaged and innocent couple Janet (Susan Sarandon) and Brad (Barry Bostwick) who find themselves lost and with a flat tire on a rainy night. Looking for a phone, the couple walks to a nearby castle where musical hijinks ensue. 

The castle is hosting the 'Annual Transylvanian Convention' and they meet Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Jim Curry) and his household staff: Riff Raff (Richard O'Brien), Magenta (Patricia Quinn) and Columbia (Nell Campbell). Dr. Frank-N-Furter soon reveals he has discovered "the secret to life itself " - his creation: a man blonde hair, with a tan Rocky (Rayner Bourton). During the Rocky celebration, Eddie (Meatloaf) bursts out of the deep freeze on a motorcycle. I won't ruin the rest of the movie if you haven't seen it, but it is a ridiculous/scandalous time.


The movie did not do well with critics initially, but it soon became a midnight movie in NYC in 1976. Actors dress as the cast act out the movie in front of the big screen, fans dress up, yell and throw things at appropriate times during the show. Midnight showings still happen all over and I went once in Santa Monica and Barry Bostwick was the special guest! There was also a pair of his movie tidy whities in plexiglass in the theatre lobby that he signed 😂

Two Tim Burton Duos Lookbook

Two Tim Burton Duos Lookbook


I've been enjoying making movie recreations lately and since it's Simblreen, why not do some Tim Burton movies?! I created Jack Skellington and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and Lydia Deetz and Beetlejuice from Beetlejuice (1988).

Back when we were allowed to gather in large groups/go to concerts, I went to a live performance of the Nightmare Before Christmas at the Hollywood Bowl...where I dressed up as Beetlejuice. The movie plays on a projector, Danny Elfman conducts a full orchestra (and sings Jack!) and the original cast shows up to sing their songs...it's a fun time!

I went a little nuts and recolored Lydia's veil and dress! Find their links in Lydia's section below.

I wanted to keep the Baz Luhrmann train going, so I present to you: Harold, Satine, Nini and Christian from Moulin Rouge! (2001) 

This film tells the story of a young poet/writer, Christian (Ewan McGregor), who falls in love with the star of the Moulin Rouge, cabaret actress and courtesan Satine (Nicole Kidman) set in Paris in 1899.

Fashion from 1910 to 1919 in the Western world was characterized by great opulence in the first half of the decade-- a stark contrast with the somber practicality of garments worn during the Great War, or WWI. 

Men's pants were worn cuffed to ankle-length and creased. Skirts rose from floor length to well above the ankle and women began to bob their hair.

Romeo + Juliet Lookbook

Romeo + Juliet Lookbook


This lookbook is is based on Baz Luhrmann's 1996 Romeo + Juliet which featured a star-studded cast including Claire Danes, Leonardo DiCaprio, John Leguizamo  and Harold Perrineau. 

The movie kept the original Shakespeare text, but the Montagues and Capulets are warring mob families with legitimate business fronts, swords became guns, and fair Verona became Verona Beach, based on Venice Beach.

This soundtrack is still one of my favorite movie soundtracks but for some reason they left out my favorite song! 90's movies used to release basically mixtapes as soundtracks and they were amazing! (I also recommend the Cruel Intentions soundtrack....just the soundtrack; the movie hasn't aged well)

Brazilian Lookbook - Carnival


Before I went on my hiatus, I did a series of cultural lookbooks and someone requested a Brazilian lookbook that I never got around to. So for this lookbook I decided to focus on looks you'd see at the Carnival of Brazil. 

Carnival is held annually between the Friday afternoon before Ash Wednesday at noon, which marks the beginning of Lent, the forty-day period before Easter. During Lent, Roman Catholics and some other Christians traditionally abstained from eating meat and poultry, hence the term "carnival", from carnelevare, "to remove (literally, "raise") meat.

Carnival is the most popular holiday in Brazil and has become an event of huge proportions. The country unifies completely for almost a week and festivities are intense, day and night, mainly in coastal cities. Rio de Janeiro's carnival alone drew 4.9 million people in 2011, with 400,000 being foreigners.
